Happy Birthday Dorinda

My sister is celebrating her birthday today. I already sent her a birthday card, which she will receive late (Sorry Dee), but was in the mood to also make her a card to tickle her funny bone. Hence this card.

The sentiment inside says:

Neglecting my blog while busy cardmaking!

I have not posted anything in a while but have been busy. Busy with life in general. My kids are in the college planning process. Who knew how much time and effort it takes on everyone! I will be glad when they finally know where they are going.

On the card making front I have been busy. I have taken a few technique classes at Ink About It and love to learn new things! I have gotten together with friend to make cards as well. Nothing better than getting a bunch of gals together to chitchat and make cards! So much fun with so many laughs!

So here is some of what I have been up to. Enjoy!

Watercolor Butterfly

I love butterflies! They are so graceful and come in so many sizes, and what colors! We are fortunate to have a great many butterflies visit our gardens. When we planned our main garden, we were sure to include plants for them to feed from. Some examples are Butterfly Bushes, Butterfly Weed, and Pincushion plants.

When I saw the Wonderful Wings stamp set from Stampin Up I knew I had to have it! I decided to use this set for my next watercolor card.

Watercoloring - the joy of it!

As a little girl I loved to watercolor and with stamping I was able to rediscover how much fun it is! There is something very satisfying about it. Playing with the colors and shadows and knowing that no matter how hard you try you will never get two images to come out the same. The amount of water, color and touch vary each time and the effect is wonderful.

This card is one that I made last night and I am pretty happy with the way it came out. I used watercolor markers on dry Canson watercolor paper and with a wet brush moved the colors around until I was happy with the results. I stamped the image and watercolored it, finishing with some accents using a glitter pen and ribbon, which I colored with my Copic markers to get just the right shade of purple. Lastly I dry embossed the notecard using a Cuttlebug folder. I just love them!

I have a stack of stamps that I want to work with while I am on vacation. I can't wait!

More Digi-Scrapping

I have been able to do a few more pages as part of the Feeling Scrappy Sketchapalooza 4 class that I am taking. Being able to put a page together here and there has worked well with my schedule and in the end I have amassed a nice collection of pages in a short time! I usually do the bulk of my scrapbooking when I am able to sneak away to retreats so when I am able to get some done outside of those events it is a bonus!

Here is a two page spread:

And another page from one of the sketches that I found the most difficult to do so far but think it is my favorite one of the first few that I have done. There are 20 sketches in all but I have only gotten six done.

I loved the colors in this one. I was able to put together a page I was really happy with and am sure I will use it again.

Happy 80th Birthday to my MIL

My mother-in-law turned 80 this past Saturday. We celebrated by surrounding her with family and friends. The weather was perfect, the food was yummy and a good time was had by all.

As part of her gift I made some claybord tiles stamped with the Serendipity Floral Alphabet stamps. I love these stamps. I had a little bit of hard time deciding how to best finish them but decided to use Twinkling H2O's. I put magnets on the back so that she could use them on her frig.

Marilyn, I wish you many, many more happy years with us.

Flowers, Flowers Everywhere!

Karen and I got together today for an overdue crafty session. It is always fun to be able to chat while making cards and bounce ideas off each other. She has a great eye for color combinations that I would not normally use and I am always happy with the results.

A few of the cards that I made using the Hero Arts Fanfare stamp I had done on watercolor paper a while ago and finally got around to making cards with. I love working with watercolor images. With one stamp you can get multiple images and depending on the wetness of the paper get very different results.

Only one card has a sentiment. I will add other sentiments as I need. I like making cards that are multi-purpose in nature. It is nice have a card to use for that unexpected occasion.

Here is what I was able to accomplish:

My son Michael is interested in graphic design. He is considering pursuing computer science/web design in college. A few days ago I asked him to create a banner image for my blog and this is what he came up with. I am very happy with it! Thanks Michael!

Is it Summer Yet?

Here in New England the weather has been miserable. The cold, gray, wet weather does not resemble what June usually is: hot, steamy and sunny. Where is our weather? Please send warmth this way please!

So in the meanwhile I made some cards that make me feel a little closer to summertime. I got this new frame stamp from Morning Star Stamps and just LOVE it. It makes it so easy to pair a few images and sentiments together. It works really well for small images, especially all my A Muse goodies! I plan on using the frame stamp a lot!

Just Ducky

This card was made for a friend, who is having some medical tests done, to let her know that I am thinking of her.

These stamps are from Rosie's Roadshow, that I mentioned in a previous post.

I just think this duck is so cute! Don't you?

I just love these two lovely ladies and the sentiment that goes so well with them!

I have a few very good friends that could be recipients of this card! The secrets that we share! Oh boy!

Anyway, the two ladies and sentiment are from a Rosie's Roadshow. I have added a few of their really cute stamps to my collection. I just love them!

Celebrating 24 years of marriage

Today, May 26th, is my 24th wedding anniversary! Such a milestone it is these days to be married for this many years. In what feels like a blink of an eye 24 years have gone by!

I am looking forward to the next 24 and if we are fortunate many more after that!

So to my DH - I love you!

Mr. & Mrs.

My nephew got married today!

It does not seem possible that this day is here already. Time has certainly flown by while I was not looking.

Justin and Amanda make a great couple. I wish them a lifetime of joy. Being a wife of a Marine will not be easy but I have every confidence that together they can accomplish anything.

Congratulations Justin and Amanda!

I am on a card making roll! I made these two cards in just a few minutes. I used the Big Block BL stamp to create the background using Cat Eye ink pads to create the grass and sky. I then used the new Long Grass stamp along with a few of my favorite A Muse mini stamps and Voila - Think Simple, Think A Muse!

Thinking of You

I love flowers! I have lots of gardens around my house and many indoor plants. I just love flowers!!! And I have many, many flower-themed stamps. Too many as one of my friends thinks :-).

Well, the latest A Muse release contained many beautiful flower images which of course I HAD to have!

I started this card with an ATC that I made for the New England A Muse Addicts get-together at Ink About It. I love the bold colors and it reminds me of all the gorgeous flowers that are just waiting to make an appearance!

Think Simple, Think A Muse!

I have had this card in my head ever since I first saw the new A Muse Umbrella stamp that came out with the Beautiful Blooms and Brides release a few weeks ago.

The time was right to finally sit down and put it on paper and the impetus was the latest A Muse Lounge Challenge entitled "Think Simple, Think A Muse!".

The challenge was to make a simple card with no more than 3 layers, any tools and techniques.

I am pretty happy with the way it came out ~ the way I saw it in my head!

To the expectant parents...

Our friends Kathi and Devang are expecting their first child in September! I made this card, to let them know how happy we are for them.

We are so happy for them and cannot wait to meet their newest member of the family in a few months.

To keep it gender neutral I wanted to color the jammies in yellow and ended up flocking them with Fun Flock! I did use some pink and blue but not too much. The flock makes the jammies pop. Gotta love that flock!!!

I am happy with the way the card came out.

Congrats Kathi and Devang!

Happy Easter 2009

Forgive me blog readers, I have sinned. It has been too long since my last posting!

I have been making cards just not posting about them. A lot has been going on with life, as I am sure many others can sympathize. I finally made time to get my Easter card for this year done. It is not as involved as last years but just as cute! It is based on a design by Jenn Shurkus. Thanks Jenn! Gotta love those peeps! Peeps wars anyone???

Happy Easter to all who celebrate it!

VSN (Virtual Stamp Night) A Muse Style

A few weeks ago I participated in my first SCS Virtual Stamp Night, A Muse style. Jenn hosted the chat for us A Muse addicts from the Lounge. I was a little confused how it was to work at first, no surprise there :-). I then figured it out and off I went. I participated in three of the challenges and had a great time.

I still cannot chat and stamp at the same time and am in awe of those ladies who can (and you know who you are)! I was one of the lucky drawing winners that Jenn did. I won the clear A Muse Sushi set. I cannot wait to ink it up!

Here are the challenges and my interpretation of them.
Long Lost Love: The challenge was to find a LONG LOST stamp(s) give it a little squeeze, renew that friendship and then ink those babies up! Create something new, fresh and fun with your older stamps; renew that love that has been long lost.

Stamps: A Muse
Paper: Neenah, A Muse
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, SU
Accessories: A Muse Ribbon, Copic Markers, Spica Pens

Some Man “Be Thinking About YOU”: The challenge was to make a card that a MAN would send to any female (wife, girlfriend, mom … even sister, daughter, whatever). Specific color combinations of tan, navy and cream, no ribbon and only three brads, no more, no less.

Stamps: A Muse
Paper: Bazzill, A Muse
Ink: SU
Accessories: Brads

Wee Bit O'Love: This challenge was to make a card with inchies. For those of you not familiar, inchies are 1 X 1 inch squares of cuteness. We could use stamps, pictures, designs or anything we wanted want. But we had to use at least 3 of them on your card.

Paper: Neenah, A Muse, Bazzill

Card Making Play Date Results

My friend Karen and I got together this morning to make cards. My husband called it our play date. In addition to having some laughs (some of them about me and my many issues) we were able to get a lot done. It was great to be able to ink up some stamps that I had not had the opportunity to use yet. It feels so good to break in new stamps!

I was on a card making roll this weekend and wanted to post more pictures of cards that I made using the Bare Tree stamp by Memory Box. These cards came together so quickly and I love when that happens (I usually agonize over cards!).
