Our Vacation

We just got back from our favorite place to go on vacation, St. John USVI. It is heaven on earth! We drove to Newark, NJ to fly to St. Thomas. It was amazing that flying out of EWR was so much cheaper than flying out of Boston. We were able to get a direct flight which makes the whole travel process so much easier!

St. John is a small island. Only nine miles long & three miles wide, two thirds of the island is the Virgin Islands National Park. There are so many beautiful coral sand beaches here.

The weather was just gorgeous the whole week we were there. We stayed at the Westin St. John which is a great place to stay. It is located in Great Cruz Bay. The ferry from St. Thomas docks right at the hotel marina dock and you are greeted with Rum Punch for the adults and plain punch for the kids. A nice way to start vacation!

While on the island we rented a Jeep which I think is the ONLY way to get around the island. Taking taxis is a possibility but requires more planning that we wanted to do. We love to beach hop and this way we could be completely flexible. The ride to our favorite beach, Cinnamon Bay, has some twists and turns that are so much fun!!!! You feel like you are going to slip back the turns are so steep. What fun to drive there!!!

It is just a short swim to Cinnamon Bay Cay and the snorkeling there was very good. The sizes of some of the sea urchins! The beach is not crowded and a great place to spend the whole day.

We spent half a day on the Island Spirit catamaran that took us to Little St. James to snorkel around this private island. The fish there were so pretty! I cannot imagine owning my own island. There was a fake cow on the shore which we could not figure out the significance of the cow but I guess if you own your own island you can be a little different with your decorating choices.

The other beach we went to is Hawksnest Bay. The snorkeling at the beach was great with the coral reef right off the beach. The fish were as beautiful and plentiful as what we had seen when we went for our snorkeling cruise to Little St. James island.

We took the ferry over to St. Thomas do stroll around all the shops and had lunch. St. Thomas is much more populated compared to St. John. There were two cruise ships docked which made for large amounts of tourists walking around. The residents were getting ready for Carnival which was going to be the last weekend of our trip and people told us to come but we were leaving then. It was nice to return to the peace of St. John.

We hated to leave and cannot wait to return to St. John.

Act Your Age

If you could go back to any age again, how old would you want to be and why? What age would you least like to be and why?

If I could go back to any age again I would want to be 28. I was 28 I became a mother of my twin sons. I would like to relive what was left of my pregnancy (a few months). I really enjoyed being pregnant! I would like to experience my sons being babies again and as it were "stop and smell the roses".

I am currently scrapbooking when my sons were little and the pictures make me yearn for the days when they were small and loved to cuddle. Oh how cute they were! Before they became self conscious of how they look when they smile. I miss the baby smells (well... maybe not all of them). You do not realize at the time how much you will miss, that the time will come when it does not seem so hard.

So now for the age(s) I would not like to relive again. Like many people I know, I would not like to relive most of my teenage years. Those awkward, goofy years where you hated the way you looked, dealing with all those zits and wishing you were older. Those awful haircuts (and perms) that I had. Going to my Junior Prom not looking like myself. My mother having put this awful blue eyeshadow on me that matched my dress and hating my hair! Oh, those were not the days!!! But as hard as it was, it has made me who I am today. I am happy with who I am and the wonderful family and friends I have been blessed with.

Cricut Design Studio

Well I made the leap and purchased the Cricut Design Studio software. I should be receiving it in a few days and cannot wait to be able to use it with all my cartridges. I briefly used the trial software that was available from the Cricut website. The trial is limited to the George cartridge you can't do too much with just that cartridge. I have begun compiling a library of cut files that I have found on some great blogs (will post a list soon). There are some very creative people out there!

Wish me luck!

My Secret A*Muse Admirer

Friday was happy mail day! I received a package from my A Muse Admirer and it made my day! It was a rough week at work and to get a surprise package was very nice!

I love Peppermint Patties and my admirer gave me lots of them. As you can see she is very creative with the way she altered the tea tin (which is filled with more Peppermint Patties). I also received the Boutique stamp, crystal stickers and ribbon. I am sure that I will be using these goodies soon.

Getting to know me

On ScrapShare the weekly blog challenge is getting to know each of us. Below are the questions that we were tasked to answer.

1) Right now I want:
To finish the rest of the Mocha Almond Assault ice cream from Kimball Farm that I have in the freezer! I love this ice cream!!!

2) I wish I knew how to:
Speak French fluently. I took many years of French in school and wish that I could speak it really well. Not that I have a need to other than when we visit Montreal. I just love the way it sounds. Very romantic!

3) When I want to indulge myself, I:
Get a pedicure! I go to a salon in Nashua, NH that has the most awesome Nail Technician, Jennifer Hall, who gives great manicures and pedicures!

4) You’ll never see me:
NAKED! Ha ha ha - I had to say that!

5) A childhood memory that I love:
Playing cards and cribbage with my grandmother. My grandmother taught me how to play so many games. Sorry, Canasta, Rummy, Cribbage to name a few. She used to call me "Grabby Abby" for taking all the cards when we played Gin. How I would love to play a game of Cribbage with her again! I can still hear her counting 15-2, 15-4, 15-6... Oh Gram, how I miss you!

6) 2 things I do every single day:
Drink coffee and kiss my DH. Not necessarily in that order.

7) Happiest moment of 2008, so far:
Making the decision to get myself in shape.

8) Describe yourself in 3 words:
Big Control Freak .
Three nicer words to describe myself: Independent, Caring, Outgoing

My kids answers:
M. said: Creative, Skillful, Kind.

J. said: Cook, Kind, Funny. When I told him that Cook was not an adjective he said "Yummy Cook" which of course makes it 4 but hey, whose counting when they are good things!

9) 2 scrap related goals for this year:
a. Finish my 1995 family album and continue onto 1999.
b. Start to put my parents pictures into Picfolio albums.

10) You have $40 that you MUST spend on yourself – what do you do with it?
See answer #3. Or better yet, a trip to Michaels, AC Moore or Ink About It for scrapbooking and stamping supplies.
